Film Location

Image
After scouting out places to film at, me and Jeremyah saw a couple of different clubs or active places we could film at to capture the party part of our first half of the film. This would be much more fitting than faking a party to film our first half of our film. It would also help capture the feel and weight of the bad decision, and help set up the rest of the filming. I would be the one shooting the scene, and Jeremyah would be the one acting. It would most likely be hand held shots to capture the feeling of being at the party.  Another location we believe we could use would be Jeremyah's garage where he has a broken down car. This would set up the second half of the film where we film in the garage. The broken down car would be used in the scene, and the surrounding area of the garage we would have to be careful not to show anything else as it would show that we are filming in a garage and not a makeshift workshop. This scene would be a mix of me and Jeremyah in frame, an...

Filming with Phone and Gimbal

I just learned how to film better with a phone and Gimbal, to help scenes look better when filming. Shots like the push forward, pan, orbit, low/high shot, and follow will all most likely be used when filming. A helpful trip that I learned was to crouch a little when walking to have more controlled walk, and so that footsteps don't accidentally creep in when naturally walking. Seeing how the shots look in the video as well help me chose what angles I want to use, and how they would look if I were to use them. The follow shot will definitely be helpful when Jeremyah is walking around, and the orbit shot can also be used too. The high and low shot can be used to show the power or weakness someone has in a scene. I will have to figure out how and when to use the push forward shot, but I believe it can be used and will be helpful when shooting scenes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_BY7jqIrNs

Role in Pre and Post Production

For our film, me and Jeremyah have discussed our roles for the film. We have decided that I will be doing most of the filming, and will only be helping/doing some of the acting and editing when it comes to the Film. Jeremyah will do most of the editing and acting, and will help with the filming when it includes scenes with me in it. I am not the best actor, but Jeremyah is, so that is why he will be doing the acting. We can both film, and edit, but Jeremyah does come up with more ideas in what to do with the editing, and I can help with being able to find those tools to help us edit. I will have to learn a little more about filming and camera angles so that the scenes look better, and are easier to edit in when we edit and do the sound. Other things that we have decides for atleast pre production is that I will be learning and doing the lighting, wardrobe, and special effects. Jeremyah is doing the script, and monologue. And we have split up location scouting, and working together...

Introduction

Hi, my name is Viktor Monoki. This is my blogger. In this blog, and class, I hope to learn how to shoot movies, analyze different types of films and their meanings, and have an overall good time while making projects and films. I do not expect to take this class outside of this year or pursue it as a career. I am taking this class as a AICE class that is similar to the AP classes that I have taken.

Lighting

Image
Different lighting we can use can show how the character is feeling in the moment and the mood we want to set for our scene. This can bring our a scene more and help the audience understand what the character is feeling or situation that is going on. High-key lighting can make a scene pop more with brighter lights and less shadows, bringing an upbeat tone. Low-key lighting does the complete opposite and brings suspense in horror or thriller films, we will likely not use this lighting. Most scenes will likely consist of three-point lighting, which is the most common lighting used, and natural lighting during scenes shot outside. When we are at the start of the film and at the beach, it will likely be natural lighting due to the sun setting will be the focus of the light that we use. Scenes that are shot that at a party or at a club will most likely use practical lighting as it would only be coming from house lights or different LED's. The rest of the scenes that are either in the g...

Script Fail

My Teammate Jeremyah has been working on our script for over a week and a half now. He assigned the script to himself split up the amount of work between us, and make the pre production process a little smoother and organized. But, it has been a slow grind to even write a page and a half worth of script. With our film veering completely different from our previous film, but sticking with the same genre, it has taken that week and half to come up how the scene will work. I have tried to help come up with ideas, which help him think of ideas as well, but they have all been dismissed and labeled as "stupid." So for our the rest of our script, it will be on him to finish, as clearly my ideas do not add to anything. This has delayed any work for production we might have been able to get done by now, as at least I do not know what we will be filming or where we will be filming. Jeremyah has been starring at the script for the last 3 days, with only around 1 sentence written per da...

SFX research

Image
Sound effects for our movie would help bring out the scenes with better sound. One of the most popular uses of sound effects used in a movie is Michael Bay in his Transformers movie series. Each sound effect of the transformers transforming capture the amount of complexity there is when transforming, which engages the audience even more then with basic SFX. The SFX that is used during the movies is what makes the movies even more recognized and popular, with majority of people being able to spot out the movie with only sound and not seeing any scene. Another popular SFX used is Steven Spielberg during Jurassic Park. The use of sound to describe how the dinosaurs would wound, and the feeling that they can create whenever they roar or breathe, bring the movie to life, and can make a scene feel laid back or intense. Sound effects we could use for our movie would include public noise for our party scene. Background noises for mechanics in the workshop, beach noises and waves for the o...

Wardrobe

Image
The wardrobe we would use would be replicant of the surrounding area. On the beach, Jeremyah would be dressed casually in a white button up, and tan shorts. When in college, it would be no specific outfit, as college doesn't have any specific theme as you where whatever. When in the workshop, I would be wearing a stereotypical mechanic outfit, and Jeremyah would be wearing a white tank top and black shorts to show that he is inexperienced in working a blue collard job.  The white button up and tan shorts would show the success and easy living than Jeremyah had in college before getting kicked out. My mechanic outift would simply show that I am a hard working mechanic. And Jeremyah being in simple tank top and jeans would show how he is new and still has a lot to learn all over again.

Drama Research

Image
Waves can be taken as an inspiration for ideas on how to shoot our movie. The start of the plot where stan makes a massive mistake at the start of the movie during a party under the influence. As well as getting physical with his family during an argument. This can be taken into consideration for the first half of our film, where either me or Jeremyah are a heavy partyer, and a mistake changes the course of one of our lifes. Waves could help us plan the scene and decide what, where and how to shoot, and what we think would help the film in helping portray our social issue.  Waves used a lot of handheld shots to help show a real human to human interaction. And a 360 camera to help pan between arguments to help emphasize the emotion that is involved with it. The film also uses a lot of color, especially a vibrant color plate. The film uses lens flares to portray an almost dreamy like statues when filming. And the use of low angle camera shots to establish the power dynamics to ...

Film Genre Research

Image
The F1 movie uses a lot of camera techniques and angles to capture the high speed racing that takes place. The high angle with the helicopter helps capture the intensity when racing is happening, and the close ups in the car capture the intensity and focus of the driver, and the different emotions that a driver can go through when racing. The camera hold technique as Sonny Hayes is walking out creates a seriousness that takes place when a driver is about to race. Sound is very important when racing, it captures the noise of the cars, crowd, and team when the racing is happening. The props used are different car company hats, racing helmets and suits, headphones and the cars add to the racing theme and drama of the movie, mise en scene can also be seen as all props, lighting, camera work, and techniques can all be seen in certain scenes. The F1 movie had around a 200-300 million dollar production distributed by Warner Bros. It grossed over $633 million worldwide, becoming the highe...

Genre Research Part 1

Image
Our genre for our project is Drama which focuses on the realistic and emotional development of characters and their relationships. It typically explores human experiences, conflicts and emotions, aiming to evoke empathy and provoke thought and audience. Common elements include emotional depth and relatable characters. Emotional depth is the heart of the drama, and explores human emotions to connect with the audience, and the relatable characters can be related to the audience as well as certain people can see themselves in certain characters. Frequent techniques can include dialogue heavy scenes and close-ups, as well as mise en scene. Narratives usually include conflict, and within that conflict there is personal, interpersonal and external conflicts. To start off popular drama movies from the 1920-30s is The Kid which is about how a tramp adopts and raises a boy. The importance is how the film blends comedy with profound emotional depth. Nosferatu is about a vampire Count Orlok ...
